What is the Fikret Yüksel Foundation?
Yuksel, Inc. strives to provide quality service and welcoming homes for residents. Beyond our mission to provide ethicallly run apartment housing, we have a bigger purpose.
In 1974 Fikret Yuksel, a Turkish immigrant, started Yuksel, Inc. with his wife, Frances, and daughter, Susan. Together they began to build a company the three of them could be proud of. In 2001 when Fikret Yuksel passed away he didn’t leave behind just a business, but a legacy. Upon his death, he established the Fikret Yuksel Foundation, created to fund education for children in Türkiye. Since then, his daughter Susan and her husband Gary, along with his grandchildren, Alex and Zoe, have built that foundation up to support FIRST Robotics throughout all of Türkiye. With each year the program grows, reaching more students, teaching them about STEM through interactive sport-like events in which they are required to design, build and program robots to compete against their peers.
This program spoke to us specifically as it teaches math, science, art, and business, not in a dry classroom setting, but with a very hands-on approach that encourages the students to seek knowledge and pursue the branches of STEM that excite them. On top of this, FIRST works to promote Gracious Professionalism-
“a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. Through Gracious Professionalism, fierce competition and mutual gain coexist.”
At the competitions, you will see students working hard on their own robots but also jumping at the chance to assist their fellow competitors so everyone can compete to the best of their ability. This concept spreads beyond just their schools as well, with students often going out into their communities to both offer support and education to younger students and assist in times of need, ie. after the earthquake in Türkiye in 2022.
We feel it is important to give back to the communities that raised us, that helped us grow, and we are doing that by supporting FIRST in Türkiye and beyond.
